Pereira has been teasing big fight news for weeks, fueling a return to the cage after a failed attempt to become the UFC’s first three-time champion in the White House promotion. That event ended with a TKO of Pereira by Ciryl Gane, who won the interim heavyweight championship. With Tom Aspinall too injured to compete, Gane now becomes the undisputed title holder.

Pereira has made it clear that he intends to stay at heavyweight and fulfill his goal of becoming a champion there. Who will he fight to take the next step? There are certainly good options, such as No. 2 Sergei Pavlovich or No. 4 Aleksandr Volkov. One could argue that both men was a better case for fighting Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight belt instead of Hokit. Instead, they could become Pereira’s next opponent.
