AJ Styles reminisced about his match with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 35 and how it ruined the match for the crowd in the arena.
Styles discussed Orton on the latest edition of “”.WWE retrospective,” where he analyzed some of his memorable matches in WWE. He spoke highly of Orton, claiming there would never be another wrestler like him.
“I think Randy Orton is the WWE. I mean, ever since the dreaded RKO exploded on memes everywhere, everyone wants to get RKO’d or want to RKO you. He has one of the most popular wrestlers in wrestling. I mean, everybody wants to do it,” Stiles said. “So I mean that says a lot about Randy and his celebrity. I mean, there will never be another like him.”
Styles and Orton faced off at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, in a match that was marred by spotlights blocking fans’ view of the match, resulting in a silent crowd. He said it was because they were showing it a second time, then Brock Lesnar decided he wanted his match against Seth Rollins to open the show.
“Now this game was good, but a lot of people don’t remember it, ’cause nobody was making noise. Because they were blinded by the lights in this game,” explained Phenomenal. “Why were they blinded? Because I believe we were either second or first, but it changed because Brock wanted to go. And so apparently we’re following Brock Lesnar’s rules when deciding who’s first or second.”
Styles confirmed the claims of other wrestlers who defended Orton’s smoothness in the ring, noting that “The Viper” understands the business better than anyone. He concluded by saying that the match was good, but the crowd wasn’t really into it.
