AJ Styles has looked back on his early years in WWE and suggests he didn’t like Roman Reigns at first.
Reigns, when Styles came to the company in 2016, was an important player behind the scenes, becoming the leader of the locker room and the biggest name in the promotion. Stiles talked about himself WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble on”AJ Styles Show:“Podcast, and thinks Reigns wasn’t entirely sure about himself at first.
“I think there was some (feeling with Roman) of, ‘Oh, this guy is scary.’ I guess I didn’t like Roman at first. I don’t think he really liked me. He didn’t know who I was, what I was about, or knew anything about me. He used to say: “This guy comes to my house thinking he knows how to do it.” I don’t know that for sure,” Stiles said.
“The Phenomenal” said that Reigns eventually came to trust him when they got in the ring and developed a strong working relationship.
“But I think once we wrestled and the story we had was unbelievable, I think after that he said, “Okay, I like this guy.” You know, it wasn’t about me, it was about the game. I think when people realize that with someone, now you can trust them. I think he got to that point and was like, we can trust this guy. He’s one of the guys,” Stiles added.
The retired star had a mini feud back Reigns in his debut matchwhich he says helped him deal with his initial worries that fans wouldn’t know who he was. Styles and Reigns feuded in 2016 after the former’s debut, and a few years later they had their final singles match against each other at the 2022 Saturday Night’s Main Event.
