Nyla Rose is an AEW Original and former Women’s World Champion. Although he hasn’t appeared on an AEW program since 2024, “The Native Beast” has been active in India, competing for promotions such as Eve, Marvelous, Marigold and MPX Wrestling. He currently holds the AAAW Tag Team Championship with Nightshade.
After the AEW show in December 2023, The Oklahoma Athletic Commission (OSAC) has issued a warning regarding the promotion because they claimed Rose violated the state’s 2021 law against transgender athletes competing against cisgender athletes. OSAC repeatedly faulted Rose during a meeting discussing the alleged violation. A few days later with a call from the mediaTony Khan has come out in support of Rose and transgender people, while admitting he was shocked by the warning.
“I think there should be no discrimination against transgender wrestlers or transgender people at all. They have rights, and I absolutely stand with Nyla Rose on that end. AEW stands behind Nyla Rose and all transgender people who want to participate in the sport.”
during an interview with Denise SalcedoRose addressed OSAC’s warning. “Utterly rude, hateful bigots, without any basis. The athletic commission is a scam. They’re just a bunch of greedy people who have found a way to make money off people, and they’re using new laws and loopholes to do what they basically want.”
Rose admitted she was shocked by Khan’s support. “I was very shocked. I was very surprised and incredibly grateful that he would perform with zero hesitation as if there was no thought there. He knew he had to be on the right side of the story and he stood 10 fingers down. And for someone of his caliber, in his position to do that, he absolutely didn’t have to, but he did, and that’s how he speaks as a man. I thank him for that.”
