After his success in Pro Wrestling EVE, Clockwork Massacre, the creation of a match from the mind of Will Ospreaywill debut on WrestleDream with main stakes. The match is for Ospreay’s AEW World Championship, and while it initially seemed like it had some pretty rough rules, AEW has made that clear in recent weeks. It may be a foregone conclusion that Ospreay will retain the title, but the uniqueness of the matchup and the caliber of the opponents make this a must-see matchup.
Eight stars will compete in the match, including Osprey. The two start and one man comes in every three minutes until everyone is in the ring. During this time, falls and submissions are counted, and anyone who falls or submits during the first half of the fight is out. Once everyone is in the ring, the match turns into a 15 minute Iron Man match for whoever is left and the star with the most takedowns will be crowned AEW World Champion. Based on Ospreay’s imagination in the AEW ring environment, it’s sure to be chaotic fun.
As of this writing, Samoa Joe and “Speedball” Mike Bailey are also playing outside the Ospreys. the five contenders will be decided in a three-hour block “Dynamite” and “Bakhum” match on Wednesday. With the short build to WrestleDream, AEW is looking to maximize the match with big names like Adam Copeland, Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, Ricochet and TNT Champion Darby Allyn, though there’s always the possibility of an upset in qualifying for the televised match. These top guys will be involved.
No matter who’s in the game, Clockwork Carnage makes the new conventional match playable right on the WrestleDream card. AEW always comes up with new stuff, the latest Trios at Roulette Royal at AEW All In Londonand more often than not (blowing up the barbed wire death match aside), the competitors in the ring can always come up with new, unique stipulations with pops of color. With Osprey at the helm of this fight, more than likely one of the two men to start, and all the abilities that are involved or could be involved, it’s going to be a good time for everyone.
