Aaron Pico explains the new fighting mentality ahead of Losene Keita’s match at UFC 333
Pico was knocked out in his UFC debut last year before earning his first win for the promotion Patrick Freire. He said he has since adopted a “rookie mentality.”
Pico, who has 11 of his 14 pro wins, has worked with trainer Roberto Barreiro to develop a more measured approach. Instead of trying to end the fights as quickly as possible, he now wants to settle into the action.
“When I say I needed to be humbled, it’s not that I walked or carried myself … I had to humble myself the way I fought,” Pico said at UFC 333 media day. “I was just fighting too much out of control. When I went to the fight, the mindset was to get over it. I just want to go there, do what I have to do, win and go home. I’ve really worked a lot with trainer Roberto Barreiro in Morocco to change the mindset a little bit. Now I want to enjoy the fight and cook.”
