Perhaps the only thing more shocking than the 93 CMLL Aniversario expanding to a nine-card event was: includes AEW’s Jeff Jarrett making his Mexico Arena debut against Blue Panther. The matchup looks to have special appeal from two wrestlers who were stars back in the 90s. But according to Dave Meltzer’s latest “Wrestling Observer Radio”, it could turn out to be the launching point for an extended Jeff Jarrett run in CMLL.
“What I can say, and I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I do know that actually Jeff Jarrett is very interested in not actually doing one and he did, but actually… not the regular, not going down every Friday, but the semi-regular of AEW going to go and work out a plan and set up a match and stuff like that. “You know, like Johnny TV, except bigger. That is his hope. It might not happen.”
Fans may recall that Johnny TV had a really short but memorable run in CMLL earlier this year, wrestling under the name Johnny Consejo. He would feud with one half of CMLL World Tag Team Champion Angel de Oro, The two culminated in a hair-for-hair matchup on February 27. TV lost the game and immediately shaved.
Although Jarrett is new to CMLL, he is not only familiar with lucha libre, but has had a similar run to what he expects to have now over the past year. The WWE Hall of Famer began working for CMLL’s rival AAA in 2004, and would make several promotions between then and 2022, even winning the AAA Mega Championship twice. In his final full-time run in 2018, Jarrett will feud with Lucha legend Dr. Wagner Jr. which was a hair vs. hair match at Heroes Immortales XII in October, which Wagner won.
