Two years later Team USA defeated Team Europe in Virginia to claim the Solheim Cup, the team’s biennial event returns this week to Bernardus Golf Course in the Netherlands. Leading the way for the Americans when play begins on Friday will be No. 1 world Nelly Korda, while the Europeans will be ahead of Lottie Woad and Charley Hull.

Start things on Friday morning at Bernardus will be the foursomes match of Repeat and partner Allison Corpuz squaring off against the duo of Woad and Hull. Want a reason to get up early (or stay up late)? Here’s your excuse. The first match of this year Solheim Cup it should be a banger.
The storylines in the matchup are juicy. Four times in the last two Solheims, Korda and Corpuz have joined in four times – and four times they have won.
“I think my favorite joke to make, which isn’t really a joke, is that it’s really easy to play when you’re playing outside of the world No. 1,” Corpuz said. “There’s just a lot of shots he’s hitting and I’m just … continually impressed with his game. …
“But like everything she does is so elite. I just think, personality-wise, like she’s also really easy to be around. I’m pretty quiet and she is too, so I think there’s a good energy match there.”
Then there is this: Two years in Sunday singles, Hull steamrolled Korda, 6 and 4.
“Yeah, playing Nelly Korda at that time was really good,” Hull said. “It was so much fun. I went out and played well. Every dog has his day, and I had that day too. But she has had a pretty incredible season so far this year, and if it was singles, it would be a really good match. I have a lot of respect for Nelly. She is a great No. 1 in the world, and she is a great golfer and anything can happen in match play.”
Among other stories, the game form of the American Angel Yin it will be something to follow. She returned to play two weeks ago after missing two months of action with a stomach ailment. On Wednesday, however, Yin said she will be ready.
“I worked hard,” said Yin, “I tried everything I can, because this is the biggest event in women’s golf and to be able to do it on this scale – we know that this will be a big deal because this is the 20th Solheim Cup. …
“It has a huge place in my heart. Obviously, I wanted to be honest because I would never endanger America. So I had honest discussions with myself in the mirror and with my team, and obviously with Angela (captain Angela Stanford) because she is the only other person, apart from my family, that I updated in all this.
“So, I think we’re pretty – we have a clear idea of what it is, and so, yes, we all agree on that. And she wanted me there. Because we asked her – well, I didn’t ask her. I had my caddy asking her: Do you want me here? And if she said no, I wouldn’t be here. But she said yes.
“So I think with such a belief and confidence from her to support me, why didn’t I show up?”
