WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman has worked with many of wrestling’s top executives throughout his decades-long career, perhaps most notably Vince McMahon and most recently Paul “Triple H” Levesque. who succeeded his father-in-law in 2022. Heyman recently sat down “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” where he compared the two executives and creative minds.
Heyman said Levesque’s creative department is very different from McMahon’s because they have “distinctly different” personalities. He called McMahon a “dictator.”
“It was his money, and therefore it’s his show,” Heyman said. “You better be good. Vince constantly pursues your ideas instead of his own. That’s the dynamic of representing Vince McMahon. He is right. He has the right to be wrong. It’s his show… If you can sell Vince, you can sell the talent. If you can sell Vince, you can sell talent. is going to buy it and then it’s his idea because he gets the credit because he’s the owner.”
Heyman explained that things aren’t like that in WWE today. He called Levesque a “collaborator,” not a dictator. He explained, while McMahon wanted a blank slate, Levesque accepts something already written on it.
“He’s the best editor I’ve ever worked with in my entire life,” Heyman said. “He’s an open collaborator who walks in a room with no expectations of his own vision. His vision is to listen to very smart people who have different ideas than he does. He’s a co-writer I’ve never had the pleasure of working with.”
