Drew McIntyre was one of the first modern examples of a wrestler who reinvented himself after a brief stint in WWE. Following him release in 2014, McIntyre returned to the independent scene before making his way back to WWE three years later, where he would go on to have a dominant run in NXT before reaching the top of the main roster. This journey allowed McIntyre to work under both Vince McMahon and Triple H.
“(McMahon) saw things a little bit differently, a very black and white kind of (mentality). “Raw Talk” by Bradley Martin. “You know, (Triple H) is a little bit more, kind of (sees) shades of gray, which, that’s the real world.”
McIntyre then recalled seeing the Bloodline story being screened, expressing that he was excited to tell stories with a similar phenomenon. “In 2022, we really started with Drew, the big Covid hero, the Scottish warrior, going down the path to becoming a bad guy,” he said. McIntyre then clarified that her character is not a heel in a black or white sense, as there is an aspect of her character that simply responds to what fans think of her.
“It’s been this very fun character arc that we’ve been on for the last four years because Triple H is very willing to make it real life and just live in shades of gray,” McIntyre explained. He then turned back to McMahon, explaining what the former WWE president emphasized. “He had a very specific way of seeing things. For example, keep it like this. “Don’t talk about things that happened a month ago, two months ago, certainly not years ago, let’s live now.”
