“Now that AEW is growing and we’re expanding into different international markets, I think it’s very important to show our global audience what a world champion is all about,” he said. “I’m going to challenge for the Grand Slam in Paris… Okada, I’ve looked up to you as an older brother for so many years and you’ve been an incredible mentor to me. When I finished my check-in at All In, the only person I really wanted to see there was you, and I couldn’t see you there. my world championship on October 6 in Paris.”
Okada, accompanied by Don Callis, immediately accepted the title with a bit of French charm, saying “Bonjour b****es”. AEW CEO Tony Khan then made the official announcement for the French Grand Slam, which will kick off from the Adidas Arena in Paris on Tuesday, October 6.
With the Grand Slam heading overseas, Khan felt it was only fitting that Okada, the current AEW International Champion, challenge for the AEW World Championship there. Furthermore, the history between Osprey and Okada remains extensive, with “The Rainmaker” boasting an impressive winning record in their in-ring rivalry. Their last standoff resulted Okada defeating Ospreay in the finals of the 2024 Continental Classic.
Ospreay wants to “make amends” for past losses
“That’s the one thing I want to try and look back at all the people who beat me when I became a world champion because there’s a list of people,” Osprey said. “A lot of them are holding championships in AEW now. We can talk about Okada. Can we even talk about Darby Allin? A lot of people can say they got a win over Will Ospreay. I plan to fix each of those losses and create a hierarchy when it comes to singles championships. Something that you are an advantage for this promotion, but at the top of this league is the world championship.

Moxley emerged resilient in his pursuit, even surviving Hidden Blade and Stormcracker. A second hidden blade, however, stopped him for the three count and in turn allowed Ospreay to retain the main AEW gold.
Elsewhere in the show, Okada put the AEW International Title on the line against Tommaso Ciampawho rocked the champion with a running knee strike for a near fall. Okada came back shortly after with a powerslam and a Rainmaker to secure the win.
Okada and Ospreay’s history dates back to New Japan Pro-Wrestling and RevPro, where the latter promotion hosted Okada’s first win over the current AEW World Champion in 2015.
