Christian Wade says Newcastle Red Bulls have all the prerequisites to become one of the best teams after spending the pre-season in the “James Bond-style” Athletic Performance Center of their owners in Salzburg, Austria.
Wade, 35, admits being at what Red Bull calls its “talent factory” has given them an insight into how the company leaves no stone unturned to help its athletes reach the very top of their chosen sport.
He points out that, although it is a new-look Newcastle team and they may not be as established as other teams in the league, everything is in place for them to succeed.
Wade believes the mental battle is a big part of winning the war, and they seem to think Newcastle Red Bulls’ success is just around the corner, despite winning just four PREM games in three seasons.
“We had a lot of fun there. Lots of training and extra teaching activities with Red Bull. We got to see their headquarters, which is something out of James Bond.”
“Obviously, Red Bull is a massive brand. Number one in marketing in the world. Leaders in kind of improving their employees and the teams they bring in, like Formula 1 and football. And so on and so forth.
“So I think it’s definitely brought a lift in terms of understanding the Red Bull brand and understanding what they’re doing with people coming into that Red Bull world. And I think that’s enough for us to start having success.”
“It all starts with the mind. If you believe you can do something, if you believe you have the resources to support it. Then it’s all about what you do now in terms of your process to get there.”
“So I can’t compare it to other clubs yet because they are probably established, but we definitely have the conditions to be one of the great teams, if not one of the best teams in the world.
“Obviously, we have the backing of Red Bull, bringing in players year after year and bringing in staff members, top people in the world of performance. You’ve got Jurgen Klopp, I think he was the head of Global Football. So you’ve got the kind of people you can rely on for support.
“We’ve got new coaches, backroom staff, and there’s a brand new board that’s been put in place. So you can see all the pieces coming together. It always starts with believing you can be number one no matter what it is.”
“Then you start making it contagious, and people start performing at it, and before you know it, you’ve gotten to where you’re trying to get,” Wade said.
