The NFL adopted a new policy regarding five player safety rules this offseason, and the announcement of fines for the second week showed there were three violations in those categories.
Bills safety CJ Gardner-Johnson was fined for a hip hit, while Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton and Commanders defensive back Jeremy Reaves were fined for hitting defenseless players.
The league’s new policy calls for players to be suspended if they are guilty of three fouls of the same type in a season. Other fouls in this category are armor blocks, throwing and horse collars. Players can appeal the fines and they will receive half the amount of the fine at the end of the season if they commit only one mistake in a given category.
There was too three qualifying penalties in the first week and no player received more than one penalty over two weeks.
