Second Test preview Springboks v All Blacks
The two-time world champions Springboks don’t lose many games on home soil, so they will still be smarting after losing 33-16 to the All Blacks last weekend. Head coach Race Erasmus will demand a response from their players, especially as defeat in Cape Town will deny South Africa the chance to claim the title of rugby’s biggest rivals.
Erasmus, unsurprisingly, made a few changes for the second of the four Tests, drawing on the impressive resources at his disposal. Scrum-half Cobus Reinach, wing Ethan Hooker and flanker/captain Siya Kolisi all return to the starting XV, although a late injury to Handre Pollard means Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu retains his place at fly-half. Cheslin Kolbe (injured in the first test) also replaces Kurt-Lee Arendse in another late change.
All Blacks boss Dave Rennie admitted: “While we were pleased with the win last week, I think both teams will be better this weekend.” He’s not resting on his laurels, with Leroy Carter replacing Josh Moorby on the wing, George Bower and Tupou Vaa’i coming into the pack, and Ethan de Groot and Josh Lord (both ruled out with concussion) coming into the pack.
As the Greatest Rivalry tour begins its second leg, it promises to live up to its hyperbolic billing. This should be a blockbuster afternoon of rugby.
