The NBA has released a new salary cap projection for the 2027/28 season on Saturdayby updating next year’s cap estimate to $176 million.
There are a number of salary figures directly related to the cap, including the league maximum and minimum salary, the mid-level exception, and the biennial exception. These numbers increase or decrease each year by the same percentage as the limit.
The new NBA forecast meant we had a series of our own predictions for 27/28 that needed updating. Here are links to those updated numbers:
Forecasts of the maximum salary for 2027/28
This is the projected salary for players signed to a maximum salary extension that will take effect in 2027, including Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderand Donovan Mitchell.
San Antonio Wembanyam’s five-year max salary extension is now projected to be worth $255.2 million, while Giljus-Alexander and Mitchell’s four-year max salary extensions, which will start at 35% of next season’s cap hit, are now projected to be worth nearly $276 million apiece.
Minimum wage forecast for 2027/28
These are the minimum wages that a player who signs a standard contract in 2027/28 will be entitled to. The rookie minimum salary is projected to be nearly $1.45 million next year, while the minimum salary for a veteran with at least 10 years of NBA experience will top $4 million for the first time.
Average level, two-year forecasts for 2027/28
These projections cover the various mid-level exemptions available to teams, including the full (non-taxpayer) mid-level exemption, the taxpayer version of the MLE, and the “room” exemption for teams using cap space. A player who signs a four-year, full mid-level contract in the 2027 offseason will earn more than $69 million over the life of the deal.
The biennial exception is also included in these projections, with him costing a record $5,843,000 in 27/28.
These predictions can be found at any time on the right sidebar of our desktop under “Hoops Rumors Features” or on the “Features” page of our mobile menu. They will be updated later this season when the NBA issues another new prediction.
