UPDATED Dana White reportedly turns down White House press secretary role offered by Donald Trump

In a surprising move, US President Donald Trump offered Dana White the role of White House press secretary. However, White seems to prefer to stay
Ultimate Fighting Championship
for president, than to pursue a career in politics.

On Saturday, Trump took
to social media
ask White to accept the role of White House press secretary. The White House has been searching for a press secretary since mid-October, following the departure of Katie Zacharia, who replaced Caroline Leavitt.

“I am pleased to announce that the great Dana White, a violent fighter and warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” Trump wrote. “I have asked him to bring with him the assistants of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris (sic), even though some are not from our country. We need these people to protect us against the crazy left. Dana will be a press secretary like no other. Dana, please accept!

It’s unclear whether Trump offered the role seriously or purposefully, as the US president says White will be allowed to bring along a few assistants, including former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier, current UFC women’s bantamweight queen Kayla Harrison (whose Trump post is misspelled Kayla Harris).

Although
CNN reported that White declined the offer
the UFC president announced that he will have a meeting with Trump on Monday. Speaking at a Zuffa Boxing press conference, White told reporters he would hold talks with Trump, apparently referring to the role of press secretary.

“I have a meeting on Monday. I’m flying to DC right now and I’m sure we’ll have something to talk about after,” White announced.

White and Trump’s professional relationship began when the tycoon hosted UFC events in 2001 at the Trump Taj Mahal and other Trump venues. White publicly supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, endorsing him in both campaigns. Most recently, Trump allowed the UFC to hold
