Thunder rookie guard Atega Owe suffered an apparent serious leg injury during overtime of Oklahoma City’s preseason win over the Pacers on Tuesday night, according to Justin Martinez of Oklahoman.
Oueh, the 41st pick in this year’s draft, took the court with a non-contact injury. He was unable to put weight on his right leg as he was helped to the locker room.
“Anytime you see someone hurt, no matter what, it’s never a good thing. But with a kid like Atega, no matter what it is, he’s going to be okay.” Thunderstorm Brooks Barnheiser said Martinez (Link to Twitter). “He’s such a lively person. Every time he walks in a room, he puts a smile on everyone’s face. It’s been really cool. He and I have a couple of mutual friends that we didn’t even know about before he got here. He got here and we really bonded a couple of months after Summer League. He’s an amazing person. So whatever it is, he’s going to be fine.”
Oueh played two seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky, where he played his final two collegiate seasons. He averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season.
Owe, who was acquired from Miami as a draft pick, signed bilateral contract in July. He played in the Summer League, but only appeared in two games before injuring his left ankle.
