Will Fernandes finally fire for beleaguered Carrick?
It hasn’t been a great week for Bruno Fernandes, Michael Carrick or indeed anyone with a Manchester United fancy.
Bournemouth’s 3-0 humiliation at Old Trafford last Sunday was dominated by a narrative that saw Fernandes spend the afternoon on the bench after criticizing Carrick’s tactics following the midweek defeat at Como.
United lost the Portuguese’s guile in midfield as the Cherries secured a victory that most thought would end Carrick’s tenure. As it was, he was given a stay of execution while talks aimed at a reconciliation between the manager and the United captain were successful, meaning Fernandes will return to the starting XI for Saturday’s clash at Chelsea.
Fernandes has a point to prove. Will he mark his return with a bang?
Bruno Fernandes to score anytime is 3/1
Bruno Fernandes to score the first goal is 10/1
Cole not so great to see red again?
Cole Palmer has always looked relaxed to the point of being horizontal. But the English international’s disciplinary record shows a more fiery side.
Palmer has been booked 21 times in his career at the club and received two yellow cards in quick succession and a subsequent red against Tottenham on Saturday.
His dismissal compounded a miserable evening for Xabi Alonso’s men, who were beaten 2-0 by their London rivals.
If there is one positive for Palmer it is that he served his one-game national ban at Liverpool in the EFL Cup in midweek and is available to face United.
Surely he will keep his temper in check with the club he supported as a child?
Cole Palmer will be sent off against Manchester United is 66/1
Cole Palmer will be booked against Manchester United is 7/2
Will Arsenal suffer more spot-kick woes?
Arsenal were expected to enjoy their evening by the sea, but the trip to Fleetwood’s compact Highbury Stadium turned into a nightmare.
Mikel Arteta made changes, but his starting eleven still contained seven full internationals, including World Cup winner Martin Zubimendi. As the game wore on, he also had the luxury of bringing on England trio Ben White, Ezri Konsa and Eberechi Eze, as well as Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Odegaard.
By the time the game went to penalties, they weren’t far from full strength, albeit down to 10 men after teenager Max Dowman’s harsh dismissal.
Guimaraes was at fault for the shootout, seeing his home effort saved by home goalkeeper Jay Lynch.
Will Guimaraes, who also missed his last offside kick playing for Brazil against Norway at the World Cup, step up again if Arsenal are awarded a penalty at Anfield?
Arsenal to miss a penalty at Liverpool is 22/1
Arsenal to score a penalty at Liverpool is 7/1
Tottenham target trio punctual
The mood music has changed at Tottenham. Once a funeral march, now it’s a Beethoven symphony.
Wins against Coventry and Chelsea have transformed the prospects of Roberto De Zerbi’s side to the point where a Champions League push is now being mooted as a genuine possibility.
It may be a long way off, but they face a dismal Crystal Palace side this weekend and will take their chances of winning a third Premier League game on the trot for the first time since February 2025.
Discovering the Eagles will make the rooster crow even louder.
Tottenham to beat Crystal Palace is 1/2
Find Barry his shooting boots?
Everton have been without a quality striker for a long time. Their current top scorer in the Premier League is Thierno Barry.
The cheeky Frenchman has three, but how many would he have if he could shoot straight?
Barry leads the Premier League in one category: most big chances missed, racking up a remarkable 12 in just eight games. It’s not Dixie Dean.
The Toffees travel to Newcastle on Monday Night Football, but will Barry bring his A-game?
Thierno Barry to get a chance at Newcastle is 1/14
Thierno Barry to take a shot at Newcastle is 8/11
