Berettini defeats Nakashima in a tiebreak in the final set
Berrettini took the opening set 6-4 on Court 2 before Nakashima leveled at 6-3. In the decisive tie-break, the Italian won 10-8.
He now leads Nakashima 2-1 in their meetings after a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory at the 2022 Australian Open. This season, Nakashima won the first round in Shanghai with the score of 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Berretini reached the quarter-finals in Vienna last week, after which Flavio Coboli left against him Trailing 5-2 in the first set of their second round match.
Nakashima, a finalist at the Brisbane and Montreal Masters this season, was vying for an eighth different Masters 1000 main draw victory.
Humbert, the 2024 runner-up, defeated Bottic van de Zandshulp 7-6 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-3 on Monday to face second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the third round.
