No schedule yet Dominic Barlowreturn, head coach Nick Nurse PHLY Sports’ Derek Bodner told reporters Tuesday (Link to Twitter). Barlow, traditionally a power forward, could be in the lineup for backup center minutes if he recovers, but back pain has kept him on the shelf for much of training camp and the entire preseason.
While Barlow did not practice on Tuesday, Anfernie Simons (hamstring) and Adem Bono (feet) were partial participants according to Bodner (Twitter references). Philadelphia has just one preseason game remaining — Friday against Boston — and while it doesn’t appear Barlow will be ready for that contest, Nurse said there is “some hope” Simons and/or Bono will be available.
We have more on the Sixers:
- According to reports, talent will not be an issue for a loaded Sixers team this season Kentavius Caldwell-Popewho suggested Monday that the team’s ceiling will be determined largely by how the multiple bigs mesh together. “Our chemistry will be the biggest part for us” Caldwell-Pope said, trans ESPN’s Chris Rome. “We like each other and can be around each other and have fun on and off the court. … We have as much talent from one to 12 or 15 years old as we’ve had guys, and it’s talent all over the place. I think our biggest thing is just communicating with each other, learning each other’s tendencies and just trying to execute that on and off the court.”
- As first reported by Mark Stein (Link to substack), the 76ers hired Brad Jones as the general manager of their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats announced today in a press release. Jones, not to be confused with Bucks assistant coach who goes by the same name, has spent the past eight years working in the NBA G League front office and previously worked in scouting and video roles for the Magic. Sixers general manager Jameer Nelson – who was involved in casting Jones for the role, trans ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Rome – played for Orlando while Jones was with the organization.
- The Blue Coats also announced it CJ Marchesani was named assistant general manager of the G League team after spending four seasons in the Sixers’ scouting department.
- U story for “The Ringer”.Jaron Weitzman talks about the Sixers’ president of basketball operations Mike Ganseythe veteran executive that “everybody loves” — and the one largely responsible for the forgettable offseason that landed the team Jaylen Brown and LeBron James.
