Rams coach Sean McVay says defensive end Myles Garrett’s knee surgery was successful, but it’s too early to say when Garrett will return to the field.
“It went well, he’s feeling good, you already see he was on crutches yesterday and then he was walking without crutches today. He’s like Wolverine, healing fast,” McVay said.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Garrett will return to the field on Oct. 18 for the Rams’ Week 6 game against the Cardinals, which is the earliest he’s eligible to return from injured reserve.
“I’m reluctant to put a timeline on it,” McVay said. “We know he’s going to miss those four weeks at a minimum. We’re not going to rush him back. We want to make sure he’s feeling good, he’s able to get on the practice field, do all the things that are necessary for him to perform at a level that he’s used to. I’ll keep you updated as we have daily updates as we go.”
Garrett did next to nothing in the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the 49ers and is out for the next four weeks, so the Rams will be about a third of the way through the season before they get any meaningful contributions from him. That wasn’t the plan when they traded for him, but the Rams’ top priority is to have him ready by the end of the season and into the playoffs, and McVay sounds confident that will happen.
