The Rams fell to 2-3 Monday night, in part because of several missed field goals by kicker Harrison Mevis — including a blocked field goal in overtime that, if good, would have won the game.
After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay pointed the finger squarely at the field goal unit after the 38-35 overtime loss: “It cost us the game tonight,” McVay told reporters.
McVay then said, “I’ll appreciate everything.”
Last year, McVay fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn after Thursday night’s overtime classic in Seattle. This time, some people must be a little nervous if the pink slip might come for them.
The clock is ticking. Next game is Sunday against the Cardinals. After that, the Rams visit the Raiders, followed by a home game against the Chargers.
All are winnable, which could boost the Rams to 5-3. Regardless, 2-3 (and 1-3 in primetime) is a far cry from where anyone thought the Rams would be after Week 5.
