Naples Midfielder Scott McTominay has been given the green light to resume competitive football after undergoing a successful procedure to correct a heart arrhythmia.
The 29-year-old Scotland international underwent a planned procedure at Manchester’s Spire Hospital in September after medical assessments identified a mild and benign arrhythmia.
After extensive follow-up tests, the Italian outfit confirmed on Wednesday that McTominay has been cleared to return to full sporting activity.
“Scott McTominay underwent further diagnostic tests, which showed he is fit to play,” Napoli said in a statement.
“Therefore, the Napoli player resumed training with the rest of the team after a period of training separately.
The former Manchester United midfielder has been sidelined since August, missing several key games during his recovery. In his absence, Napoli suffered a 3-2 Serie A defeat against reigning champions Inter Milan and slumped to a defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League.
His return is a timely selection boost for coach Massimiliano Allegri, with the Partenopei currently ninth in the standings. Serie A classification.
McTominay should be available for selection when Napoli host sixth-placed Frosinone on Saturday.
