Sami Zayn is back as the Undisputed WWE Champion after a series of interferences against CM Punk on WWE SmackDown went in his favor.
Punk sent Zayn into the corner to start the match, but Zayn slid out of the ring where he was met with a Punk dive. Punk tweaked a knee early in the bout, selling it throughout the match and getting checked by the referee. After Punk clotheslined him, Zayn rolled out of the ring to hit a splash and then rammed the inside of Punk’s knee into the ring post.
The champion targeted Zayn’s injured wrist. He lifts Zayn up for the GTS, but Zayn counters into a count of four. Punk went to the ropes to force the break. Zayn went for the Blue Thunder Bomb, but couldn’t get Punk up with an injured wrist at first. Punk went for the GTS but Zayn dodged and hit the move. Zayn hit an Exploder in the corner and looked for the Helluva Kick, but Punk hit him with a clothesline and then a GTS. However, his knee gave out and he couldn’t cover Zayn fast enough.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRay ran in to distract Punk and Zayn nearly rolled him up. He locked in the figure four again, but Punk grabbed Zayn’s wrist and then locked in the Anaconda Vice. La Rey was still distracting the referee as Zayn tapped out. Gargano looked to hit Punk with the title, but Punk caught him with the GTS. Zayn looked to grab the belt, but Kevin Owens showed up and got there first.
Owens accidentally hit Punk with the title and went to hit Zayn, but Zayn nailed him with a low blow. Zayn ended up hitting Punk with the Helluva Kick to regain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
