Fritz must beat Alcaraz to stay in the race
Fritz, with 3,050 points, would move to 3,250 with a win, 16 more than Jodar. A loss would drop him behind both Jodar and Tiafoe on 3,390 points.
Alcaraz leads their head-to-head 6-1, and Fritz has the only win in the 2025 Laver Cup. The Spaniard advanced to the quarterfinals without playing Matteo Berettini withdrew with a sore handand played just one match this week, beating Alex Michelsen 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Even a win won’t make Fritz sure of his place. If Paul also beats Shelton, he can overtake Fritz to reach the finals (3375), and Fritz would then need the final himself (3500).
Paul has to beat Shelton while Tiafoe waits
With 2,925 points, Paul needs the final (3,375) to pass Jodar and the title (3,725) to overtake Tiafoe. He confronts Shelton, who? Artur Rinderknech won 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5). on Thursday. The two Americans played against each other in a 2-2 draw.
Tiafoe, who came out in the second round, remains with 3390 points. Paul and Fritz are in opposite halves of the draw and Tiafoe can only miss Turin if Paul wins the title by beating Fritz in the final.

What could Friday’s two quarterfinals decide?
If Shelton and Alcaraz both win, Tiafoe and Jodar qualify and the Turin squad is complete. If Fritz defeats Alcaraz, Jodar is out.
If Shelton beats Paul, Tiafoe qualifies, and a win for Fritz in the night session would also send Fritz to the Tour. If Paul beats Shelton and Alcaraz beats Fritz, Tiafoe qualifies and Paul needs a final to take the last spot from Jodar.
If Paul and Fritz both win, Jodar is out and Tiafoe has to wait.
