A study published today Harvard Sociological Review concludes that amid geopolitical chaos and the rise of so-called alternative facts, the real world is now measurably less realistic than professional wrestling.
“Wrestling has long been considered a bigger pantomime. a cartoon-like microcosm where archetypes and prejudices collide in a simplistic moral paradigm,” said lead study author Professor Bob Ponovich.
“But now the reality is much crazier than even the Katie Vick story.”
The study compared recent current events to corresponding pro wrestling events and found the former to be consistently more unlikely than the latter. For example:
- The WWE Hall of Famer has twice been the President of the United States
- Elon Musk is now hailing as early-career Fritz Von Erich
- The only thing melting worse than arctic glaciers is Hulk Hogan
“WWE is a traveling circus of greased-up muscles and scantily clad women pretending to fight,” says Ponovich, “which is downright mundane compared to most White House press conferences.”
