The Panthers have created one more cap room ahead of Week 1.
For Spotrac, they have restructure Linebacker Tershawn Wharton’s contract. They converted $12.2 million of his base salary into a signing bonus, which opened up $9.7 million in cap space for next season.
Wharton is in the second season of a three-year deal, and the team added three void years to further spread the remaining hit into future seasons.
While Wharton is helping the team’s salary situation, he won’t be helping them against the Bears on Sunday. Wharton had neck surgery this offseason and is physically unable to make the roster to open the regular season.
