Thirteen The necklaces players saw action during the team’s preseason game against the Lakers on Monday, but Ben Simmons wasn’t one of them, as the former No. 1 overall pick was inactive throughout the game.
According to Mark J. Spears of Andscape (Link to Twitter), while Simmons is healthy and has had a strong training camp, the team wants to take a cautious approach to his build-up process after he sat out all of last season, so his preseason debut could be either Thursday against the Lakers or Saturday against the Warriors.
We’ve got more from across the Pacific:
- When asked by Spears in an interview with ESPN (Link to YouTube) is he interested in becoming the “face of the franchise” for Clippers after Kawhi Leonard trading, playing Darius Garland suggested that he was fully prepared to take on this responsibility. “This is definitely what I want” Garland said. “I think I’ve been through a lot in this career, and I think I’m ready to take the reins of it. Especially in year eight, I think I’ve really found myself a little bit, and I know where I want to go.” Garland added that the toe problem that limited him to 45 games last season is now “100%.”
- Speaking with ESPN’s Anthony Slater (Link to video on Twitter), Warriors head coach Steve Kerr explained why he was not surprised Stephen Curry signing an extension for less than his max has been discussed Yaksel Landeborgprojected role and praised Mike Dunleavy Jr for the job he’s done with the roster as the team tries to transition from one era to the next. “Mike writes very well” Kerr said. “We have good young players. We have a lot of cap space next summer. We have all the picks in the draft.”
- After Warriors‘ preseason opener on Sunday, veteran forward Draymond Green explained why his new offensive role represents a “huge adjustment,” while expressing confidence he’ll “figure it out,” writes Dan Dempster of NBC Sports Bay Area. Green is expected to spend less time directing Golden State’s offense upfield in Kerr’s new five-out system.
