Oregon QB Dante Moore won’t return this season from his concussion

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, who entered the season as one of the top prospects in the 2027 draft, will not play again during the 2026 season.

Coach Dan Lanning announced Monday that Moore was concussed last month will skip it for the balance of the schedule.

“If it was up to Dante in any form, he’d be out there playing for the boys,” Lanning said. “This is not a selfish decision on Dante’s part, saying, ‘I don’t want to come back, the season isn’t looking the way I want it to look.’ That’s not it at all.”

Lanning said Moore has not been cleared to return from the concussion suffered Sept. 26 against USC. After taking an illegal hit while sliding, Moore was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation.

“We said before that this is a serious deal that he will 100% be able to fully recover from, that hasn’t changed,” Lanning said. “But for him to be out there on the field for us, that’s not going to happen. We’d love to have Dante out there, he’s still going to be a big part of this team.”

The Ducks entered the season ranked second. They are now 4-3 and out of the top 25.

Under the NCAA’s new five-year rule, Moore can return to college football in 2027, delaying his entry into the draft until 2028.
