13:06: Free forward Cam Whitmore reached a contractual agreement with Nuggets and will sign a two-way deal with the team, according to Shams Charania of ESPN (Link to Twitter).

According to Charanya, Whitmore was already in Denver working out with Nuggets players. Mark Stein reported earlier this week that the former Villanova standout has drawn interest from the Nuggets.

Whitmore was the 20th pick in the 2023 NBA draft traded last month from the Wizards to the Cavaliers, who refused his in a cost-cutting effort to complete changes to his roster ahead of the preseason.

Whitmore, 22, averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game over 98 games (five starts) with the Rockets over his first two NBA seasons, posting a .449/.357/.707 slash line. Houston traded him to Washington during the 2025 offseason, and he appeared in 21 contests for the Wizards last season, averaging 9.2 ppg and 2.8 ppg on .456/.286/.742 shooting.

Whitmore’s third year in the NBA was cut short after he was diagnosed with a thrombus in the right shoulder. Wizards announced in mid-January that he would be sidelined until the end of the season, and he expressed confidence in the village that he will be ready to return to action and recover in 2026/27.

How shows our trackerDenver currently carries the guard KJ Simpson and forward Bryce Hopkins on two-way deals, so Whitmore will fill the team’s third and final two-way slot for the ’26/27 season.

While he is on this two-way deal, Whitmore will be eligible to play in a maximum of 50 regular season games and will earn $678,882, half of the rookie minimum. He also assured that he will receive a fully guaranteed salary of $5.46 million from Cleveland under his previous contract. The Nuggets would need to promote Whitmore to the standard 15-man roster in order to make him eligible for the playoffs or clear him for more than 50 regular-season appearances.

Since this will be Whitmore’s final year of two-way eligibility, his contract will only cover one year. He will become an unrestricted free agent in July 2027 when he finishes out the season in this two-way deal.
