Now on tour: 2027 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x

The next generation Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x begin their global tour roll this week in Japan. As usual, the details are thin.

The current Pro V1 and Pro V1x launched in January 2025. Titleist has kept its top balls on a reliable two-year cycle for the better part of two decades, so the arrival of a new one is not a particular surprise. If anything, it’s right on schedule. The surprise is where it happens.

Leaving for Japan

This week at the Baycurrent Classic at Yokohama Country Club, the 2027 Pro V1 and Pro V1x will begin what Titleist calls a “global validation phase” that will take place on professional tours around the world in the coming months. Tour representatives from the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour will be on the range and inside the ropes, working with players as they prepare to put the new balls into play.

Did I get “upcoming Pro V1 launches in Japan” on my bingo card? I don’t have. Then again, with the PGA Tour overseas this week, not much is happening here right now anyway.

Already in play

In fairness, “beginning” is to do a little heavy. Titleist had the final candidates ahead of tour players from the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and the move from testing to tournament play began weeks ago.

Neal Shipley was one of four players to put the 2027 models into play at the Biltmore Championship Asheville, the FedExCup Fall opener. For what it’s worth, he posted a 62 on his way to a career-best T3. Two weeks later, more early adopters followed at the Utah Bank Championship, the LPGA’s LOTTE Championship and the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links.

So Japan’s launch is less of a debut than a ribbon-cutting for a ball that’s been in the building for a while.

So, what’s new?

I would like to tell you. Unfortunately, as is tradition with Titleist’s tour launches, the company is very vague about the performance story. There’s no speed or spin (you know, the stuff that really matters), and not a word of construction or aerodynamics. The most concrete detail on offer is that the 2027 models mark the 15th generation of Pro V1 and the 13th generation of Pro V1x.

Riveting stuff.

To be fair, this is the playbook, and has been the playbook for as long as I can remember. Get the ball rolling, let the players talk and save the deep dive for when retail is closer. (And no, Left Dash is not part of it. It got its update this past January, so for once I’m not even a little bit bitter.)

What can we say

We had the opportunity to check out the new balls a couple of weeks ago. I can’t say much about it (embargoes being what they are), but I will say this: it will be interesting to see how Titleist tells this story, and how the golf world responds when it does.

Another thing worth keeping in mind. Between the USGA’s return in June and the no-tolerance Local Rule Model proposed for the elite game as early as 2028, the rulebook is all but set. Whatever the 2027 Pro V1 is, it’s coming while the rules for what follows are still being written.

With this, we will have more when we are allowed to say more.

Meanwhile, what are you hoping to see from the upcoming Pro V1 and Pro V1x? Let us know in the comments.
