After winning his TNA World Title at Bound For Glory, Leon Slater had an opportunity to become a two-time champion when he and Amazing Red challenged The Nemeth Brothers for the TNA Tag Team Championship. Thursday evening’s edition of the “Impact” program. Unfortunately for Slater, things didn’t go his way in the end.
With Trey Miguel on commentary, Red and Nick Nemeth started the action with a headlock, which the latter turned into a headlock. Quick tags allowed the defending champions to gain momentum by double-teaming their opponents. Slater eventually stopped it though, unloading a series of right hands on Nick in the corner. Red followed suit before hitting Ryan with a kick.
When Redd and Slater attempted the next double dive, the Nemeth brothers retreated down the entrance ramp to prevent them from doing so. Not interested in continuing, the champions then ran around the ring to grab their titles in an attempt to walk away with them. Instead, they ended up in the corner and then hit the steel steps.
At the end of the match, Slater blasted Nick with a forearm. Before Red could hit his brother, however, Ryan drove the referee into Slater to break things up. A title belt shot at Slater followed, as did the red belt. When the referee finally got to his feet, Nick hit Red in the penalty area for the win.
In doing so, Nick and Ryan officially retained the TNA Tag Team Championships, titles they regained by defeating The Hardys at TNA Lockdown.
