NFL survivor picks, strategy: Week 9 safe, value, and trap options

Is anyone still here? We had fewer complaints last week, but it was still a rough ride in the Survivor pools. The Cardinals win over the Cowboys was a big surprise, though we’re getting to the point where I hope most of the crowd stays away from Dallas in this kind of pool. The Broncos shocked the Chiefs late and the Bucs swept the Falcons at home, but neither had a big impact on the Survivor pools.

I’m back with my previous Week 9 Survivor picks from Jaguars-Ravens. Thursday night football. Survivor involves picking one team each week to win. If they beat you, if they lose you’re out in most cases. I’m in a single tank with four inlets, but it’s also a double drain tank. I lost three tackles last week when the Texans took me down. I’m already on one entry with one sign, so we’re getting down to the wire.

Check out the safest picks, best prices, and then trap picks below. I’ll post my own picks at the end. I’ll update on Sunday after I’ve locked in my three picks for the weekend.

I have included odds for favorites in each game FanDuel.

49ers (-9.5) over Raiders
Jaguars (-10.5) over Ravens

Chiefs (-9.5) over the Jets

The 49ers are coming out safe and sound. Considering the struggles of the Raiders defense, the 49ers offense should be able to do some serious damage at home.

The Jaguars-Ravens game is Thursday, and many people are opting to skip this short week as it could lead to some wild animals. However, the Ravens are down to their third string QB and will trade him for Jacoby Brissett after this game. They are in serious trouble.

I know the Chiefs are coming off a loss and the Jets are hanging with the Raiders, but I don’t see any way this is close.

Bears (-6.5) on Bucks
Seahawks (-8.5) over the Cardinals

The Bucs have a QB back and a crucial win against the Falcons last week in the rain. And yet, the bears are rolling right now. Jeffrey Simmons has been a big player for that defense and Caleb Williams is playing solid ball.

Divisional games are best avoided altogether, but the Cardinals have effectively ended their season. They placed running back Jeremiah Love on IR and are expected to trade Jacoby Brissett to the Ravens in the next couple of days. Gardner Minshew can be dangerous at times, but I don’t think he can do it against the Seahawks defense. Drew Lock is starting in place of the injured Sam Darnold, but given how Darnold has played this season, that’s not really an understatement.

Lions (-7) over Dolphins
Seahawks (-8.5) over the Cardinals

I think the Lions will take care of their business against the Dolphins, but with a trip to Miami and an emotional win over the Vikings, this is a tough spot for them.

If you think Locke is a drop and Minshew is a Magic item, I could see why this could be a trap game. There’s still value in it, but it’s a tough call.

I’m rolling with the bears this week. I could use the Jaguars or the Seahawks, but I’ll save those two for now.
