Amid talk that the field at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, won’t withstand the rigors of an NFL game, the league is insisting everything is fine.
NFL field director Nick Pappas told reporters in Brazil today that “there’s no need to worry.” Pappas said he reviewed the playing surface with an independent expert and a representative of the NFL Players Association and there are no safety concerns.
“We have an independent inspector that comes in, walks with myself, walks with a member of the NFLPA,” Pappas said. “They were here yesterday. Run that test. Things check. We’ve made additional improvements in this area that we think were helpful.”
The game, which is considered a Cowboys home game, starts at 4:25 PM ET on Sunday.
