Wood was originally supposed to fight Myron Santos at
UFC Paris on September 5. Santos, however, stopped the match due to illness and was substituted Pavel Andruscawho stepped up five days before his UFC debut. Wood’s winning streak stopped and he is now dealing with the result.
Nathaniel Wood vows to come back stronger after losing to Pavel Andrusca at UFC Paris
Wood was a -330 favorite going into his bout against the undefeated Moldovan, who was a +240 underdog. However, Andrusca proved he can hold his own at the top level by knocking Wood out in the first round. While Wood gained momentum in the second round, Andrusca survived the third round to earn the upset win via unanimous decision.
Reacting to his loss at UFC Paris, Wood apologized to his team for not performing to his potential. However, “The Last Kingsman” promises to bounce back stronger as each loss lights a fire in him.
“Every Sunday,” wrote Wood Xs. “Unfortunately, I didn’t perform like I could have or should have. I apologize to my team for not doing what I needed to. The loss really does something inside, I’ll be right back.”
Wood (23-7) was riding a four-game winning streak before the loss to Andrusca (9-0). The Englishman had previously thwarted prospects such as Morgan Charriere, Jose Delgado and Losene Keita.
