Freddie Prinze Jr. is best known for his acting career, however he also worked as a writer for WWE for three yearsand continues to share his love for the industry today. Prinze wrote for WWE from 2008 to 2011 and spoke about himself “Note” podcast, MVP admitted it took him a while to warm to Prinze backstage.
“I didn’t like Freddie Prinze Jr. at first,” he admitted. The veteran noted that it is about the near term his WWE SummerSlam clash against Jeff Hardy in 2008, and MVP felt like the entire story hinged on one promo a few nights before the show. Along with a writer of his choice, MVP was supposed to work with Prinze on a promo. “My thought, in an old-school wrestling mentality, (was) “This old-teen-bop-a** f**king ‘Tiger Beat’ actor, ‘I know what you did last summer’ a**, come tell me something about wrestling.”
MVP admitted his attitude was ignorant, recalling how his favorite writer kept trying to convince him to work with Prinze. In the end, MVP relented. Because they were working on the ad, neither MVP nor the other writer could come up with the right bottom line. MVP remembers Prinze pacing the room muttering something to himself before he suddenly came out with an amazing pitch.
“The crazy part is, all these years later, I don’t know what it was. I just remember him saying that and I didn’t want to like it, but that’s what we needed,” MVP said. “I wasn’t happy about it, but he was right.” After that, MVP spent more time with Prinze and found that they have a lot in common. “I realized I like this guy, man. “Freddie, you okay, man?” … To this day, he and I are good friends.”
