Mike Macdonald on Joe Mixon: “Didn’t work out”

The Seahawks, who are weak at running back, brought Joe Mixon to town for a workout on Monday. It seemed to be working, until it wasn’t.

The team ultimately did not proceed with signing him to the practice squad, allegedly based on his physicality.

Coach Mike Macdonald was asked about the decision not to sign Mixon during Macdonald’s press conference Wednesday.

“It didn’t work,” Macdonald said. “Maybe the most we have to say about it is about the process. These things happen and it’s part of the process.”

Mixon’s health continues to be shrouded in mystery. He was on the Texans’ non-football injured list for the entire 2025 season. There was never a clear answer as to what the problem was.

And so Mixon remains a free agent, available to sign with any team. And there are teams (like the Eagles) that need help at the position.
