Matt Fitzpatrick believes he is currently playing the best golf of his career, ahead of the world No 4 joining his father at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Fitzpatrick recorded a fourth world victory of the season with a three-stroke win at the FedEx Open de France on Sunday, having already won three times on the PGA Tour during an impressive campaign.
The Englishman failed to finish higher than 14th in any of the major championships in 2026, but still had six top 10s worldwide to go along with his wins, with Fitzpatrick proud of his season and claiming so often.
“This is the best round of golf I’ve played for sure,” Fitzpatrick he said on the Sky Sports Golf podcast. “2022 was right there, but I’ve had three wins and definitely a fourth now. I think just consistent consistency has been the big thing really.
“Obviously (a disappointing senior season) is a disappointment. It’s everybody’s goal at the start of the year to play in the top teams – that’s what matters most and that’s what matters.

“It’s disappointing not to do that this year. I just felt a few days off during three out of four, then the last one I didn’t play well and I got my strategy wrong.
“At the same time, it doesn’t take anything away from the season as a whole. I’ve struggled a lot in a lot of golf tournaments and that’s all you can ask for in a year.”
Fitzpatrick’s latest win moved him to the top of the Ryder Cup qualifying rankings and inside the top 10 in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai standings, while the 32-year-old can move up to career world No.2 with a strong showing in Scotland.
When asked if there are areas where he can still improve, Fitzpatrick added: “I think there are a few different pieces that we’ve looked at. We’re getting closer to the end of the year and making those decisions about what the offseason plan should be.
“There are some things that we’ve already got going on — it’s just about how you do it and how it’s structured.”
Fitzpatrick previously won the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with his mother Sue as partner in the pro-am team event, with Fitzpatrick teaming up with father Russell for this year’s competition.
“I think he could take a few more hits – he’d probably say so himself!” admitted Fitzpatrick, who also won the New Orleans Zurich Classic with his brother Alex Fitzpatrick in April.
“We’re going to need a few big days I think, to get us into some form of position. Hopefully Johan (Rupert, tournament organizer) doesn’t cut his handicap too much after this past week!
“I think he’s played pretty well so you never know – when the pressure’s on it can be a bit different, but we’re out there to have a good time and enjoy ourselves.”
