Manchester City – Paris Saint-Germain preview
The highlight of the second round of the Champions League comes to the Etihad on Wednesday night.
Manchester City face a Paris Saint-Germain side that has won the trophy in each of the last two seasons.
The game will take place amid uncertainty with City, assuming their appeal is unsuccessful, awaiting the sanction to be handed down after they were found guilty of breaching more than 100 financial regulations in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether City fans will direct their fury towards the directors’ box on Wednesday or simply focus on cheering on a coaching and coaching staff who have played no part in the financial chatter taking place in the boardroom.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak was a no-show at Anfield on Sunday for the 3-0 win over Liverpool with the cameras focused on chief executive Ferran Soriano.
The win on Merseyside was very impressive and maintained City’s perfect start to the season. They top the Premier League with six wins from six and won 2-0 at Porto in their Champions League opener.
Wednesday night can also bring an emotional reunion. Pep Guardiola is reportedly expected to be at the Etihad for the first time since leaving the club.
PSG also got off to a perfect start in Europe, thrashing Slovan Bratislava 6-1 in Paris. Luis Enrique’s men have been less convincing in Ligue 1 but they beat Le Mans 3-1 on Saturday and, with Ousmane Dembélé, Nuno Mendes and Vitinha all rested or only used off the bench, they should arrive in Manchester fresh.
City fans will remember the last time these teams met in the league stage. In January 2025, City led 2-0 in Paris before PSG came back to win 4-2.

Maresca has a fit squad to choose from. Haaland, Antoine Semenyo and Nico O’Reilly have returned from the international break with minor problems, but all three have stepped on them.
Phil Foden returns after serving the final game of his three-match domestic ban against Liverpool. His ban has never been enforced in Europe, but he is now fully available and fresh after missing Sunday’s game.
Jeremy Doku’s performance from the bench at Anfield, his longest appearance since a calf injury in August, has left Maresca with a selection dilemma on the left.
For PSG, Dembélé returned to training on Saturday and Mendes joined the squad on Sunday after a scheduled rest, and both are expected to be available. Senny Mayulu is out with a muscle injury picked up in the French youth service.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came off the bench to score against Le Mans, and Désiré Doué was a late substitute, so both should be ready to start.

Manchester City – Paris Saint-Germain Prediction
It might be foolish to bet against the two-time defending champions, but City’s performance at Anfield, and a likely sense of rebellion at the Etihad on Wednesday night, means we fancy the home side to put away what should be a fascinating game.
