Liverpool go in search of a fifth straight win in all competitions tonight when they meet Chelsea in the EFL Cup at Anfield.
The Merseysiders have bounced back well from defeat at home to Manchester City on October 11 with wins against LASK, Brentford, Villarreal and Brighton.
Chelsea were beaten 2-0 at home to Tottenham last time out, ending a two-game winning streak in the league. Goalkeeper Mike Penders was at fault for one of the goals and, to top it off, Cole Palmer was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in the space of nine minutes.
With no European football this season, the EFL Cup represents Chelsea’s first chance at domestic silverware, and boss Xabi Alonso may take it more seriously than some of his rivals. Chelsea reached this stage by beating Luton Town and then Leeds United 6-3, although Alonso made nine changes for the Leeds game. Liverpool, meanwhile, made 10 changes and still beat Tottenham 3-1 in the last round.
