Michael Carrick takes his Manchester United side to Leeds this afternoon
United are three points behind Leeds but their start has looked entirely different, winning once in the league and suffering a 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, compounded by defender Lisandro Martínez’s scathing post-match comments about the club’s spending.
After five games without a win in all competitions, Carrick is under pressure but expects a “fantastic game”. “There’s a great rivalry and there’s a great history between the football clubs and the areas,” the manager said, via United website.
“That’s what makes these kinds of games special. You have to embrace the history and what it means. You have to embrace the past.
“Some games are different and that’s what makes them special and keeps you hooked. This is definitely one of them.”
Leeds are aiming for a first win in three league games and a repeat of their painful defeat at Arsenal.
