Kevin Pietersen will join the England men’s white-ball squad as a specialist mentor in the build-up to next year’s Cricket World Cup in Africa.
Pietersen will join Brendon McCullum’s white-ball squads for the upcoming T20 International and ODI series against Sri Lanka later this month, joining a coaching team that also includes Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel and Sarah Taylor.
Former England captain Pietersen said: “I am extremely proud to have been asked to help this team on their journey to win a World Cup in South Africa.
“Putting on the England uniform again for the first time since 2014 is a profound honor and a deeply special moment.
“We have an extremely talented white-ball squad and I’m excited to get in the trenches and work tirelessly with these players to maximize their potential. Being part of Brendon’s expert team over the next 12 months is a fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
England men’s white-ball coach Brendon McCullum said: “I have tremendous respect for KP and what he has achieved in the game. He has had a tremendous impact on English cricket, so for someone of his experience, knowledge and stature to want to play a role with this team is a fantastic result.
“I’m especially excited for our players to have the opportunity to work with him. KP has a unique understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level, which will be extremely valuable to our players. We’ve always respected each other and had a strong appreciation for what the other brings to the game, so I look forward to working together.”
The former Ashes and T20 World Cup winner will also be involved in this winter’s white-ball tour of Australia and South Africa, before rejoining the squads for the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand next summer, as well as the World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
During an international career spanning 10 years, Pietersen played 136 ODIs and 37 T20 matches for England, scoring more than 5,500 runs. He also brings the experience of scoring another 8,181 runs in his 104 Test match appearances.
He worked as a mentor for Delhi Capitals during Indian Premier League 2025.
