Barnett responded on social media, questioning the veracity of Page’s claims. The former UFC heavyweight champion warned that such spending could deplete Misfits’ capital and jeopardize its future.
“Either Page is telling a very bold lie for the sake of publicity…” Barnett wrote in X. “Or (Misfits) have decided to use the same old formula: jump into the MMA market, spend like crazy, burn through all their capital at record speed, and soon be another tombstone in the market due to either incompetence and the intent to raise capital or burnout (that would be the IP, the library, all those fighter contracts), which amounts to a money-grabbing scam in a leather suit to create a top-tier MMA company/UFC competitor.
Barnett quoted EliteXC,
Misery,
International Fighting League and
World Series of Fighting as cautionary examples. He warned fighters could suffer if another promotion depletes his capital.
“Oh, and in the end it’s the FIGHTERS who really go over…again,” added Barnett.
