Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title.
Aspinall has not fought since his first title defense
Cyril Gane ended in a no-contest after being poked in both eyes in the first round. He vacated the belt on his own accord, without pressure from the UFC, and claimed he didn’t want to shut down the division amid ongoing issues with his right eye. Jones, however, has a different take on Aspinall’s decision.
Jon Jones backs criticism of Tom Aspinall after the former UFC heavyweight champion relinquished his title
One Xi user recently speculated that Aspinall decided to drop the title after his first round clash with Gane. The user claims Aspinall doesn’t fancy his chances in a rematch with the Frenchman, who currently holds the interim title. Jones agreed with the user.
“My feelings exactly,” Jones wrote to X.
Another Xi user thought Aspinall didn’t deserve the undisputed heavyweight title, which the former two-division champion responded with.
“Ouch,” Jones commented in response to a Xi user who was trying to claim Aspinall’s status as champion.
The same X account also noted that Jones was injured by Gane in the heavyweight title fight, but unlike Aspinall, he made quick work of “Bon Gamini” soon after.
“Dude you’re on fire,” Jones posted after the Xi user talked about his fight with Gane.
