Former WWE star Jinder Mahal praised Sami Zayn, claiming he does the best character work in the promotion.
Zayn, the current Undisputed WWE Championbecame a hated character even though he said things that would make a bat face. Mahal, speaking “Destroyed gap,” praised Zayn’s ability to take fans on a journey and show different sides of his character.
“The character work that Sami Zayn does, I haven’t seen this in years, where everything he says and does is childish in nature,” he began. “At his entrance, the crowd jeered at him. They were booing him, but I think it’s one of those situations, like Bret Hart in Canada, I think it was 1998, where he was being cheered in one place and then booed in another. When he goes to Saudi Arabia, I expect a big reaction, a big reception, maybe even in Canada.”
Mahal is interested in Zayn’s feud with Williams, and seeing as how their match ended in a DQ, there’s a chance that the rivalry could pick up again. The former WWE Champion once again addressed Zayn’s character, noting that many in WWE don’t rival him in that regard, putting him alongside the likes of Roman Reigns.
“This character work that Sami is doing, aside from 946 and Roman, it’s the best thing on television,” he added.
He feels that in order for Zayn to continue to develop this character, he needs to have little chance of winning against Reigns. He insisted that The Chief should dominate the Crown Jewel match and Zayn should be the underdog. Zayn is set to face his ex-boyfriend Reigns for the Crown Jewel Championship in Saudi Arabia demanding respect from him on the last edition of “WWE Raw”.
