Jason Witten reportedly becomes the offensive play-caller at Oklahoma

If, as some believe, former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is destined to eventually become Team America’s head coach, he is taking the next step in his coaching career with Oklahoma City.

Via SoonerScoop.com, Witten will become the attacking player at the University of Oklahoma, following the in-season firing of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.

Witten has served as the Sooners’ tight ends coach. He was a high school coach as of 2021.

The 44-year-old Witten originally retired after 15 seasons with the Cowboys, working in the Monday Night Football for one season, and then returned to the NFL for 2019 (with the Cowboys) and 2020 (with the Raiders). He is in his first year as a college coach.

Whether he ends up working for the Cowboys as an assistant coach or is eventually hired to run the entire show, there’s a sense that Witten will inevitably be on the Dallas staff.
