Jackson Drake defeated Tavion Heights to retain the North American Championship at WWE NXT.
Heights was challenging Drake for the first time since he dethroned Miles Bourne for the title at Heatwave. Borne then connecting Heights also lost the Tag Titles to Chad Baylor and Ricky Smokes on the night.
Heights immediately struggled against the numbers on Tuesday as Baylor and Smoaks continued to engage and Maika Lockwood waited in the wings. As a result, Drake dominated most of the opening rounds, wearing Heights against the ropes and on the mat.
The Heights continued to hold out and eventually found a place when Drake’s shoe and insole came off, allowing him to make bigger purchases as he searched for ankle braces. Drake fought back desperately at one point and clattered into a comeback rally from the Heights.
But then he fought off a German suplex to create space with an ankle press before getting into a brawl on the apron. Heights hit a German suplex to plant Drake on the apron, bringing him back into the ring and making the cover useless.
Drake came back and connected with a 450 splash off the top rope, went to the cover and cleaned off the pinfall.
After the game, as Drake and the Vanity Project walked up the ramp to celebrate, Miles Bourne appeared in the crowd and stared at Heights.
