September 21: DAZN has renewed its sub-licensing deal with Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset, bringing six of LaLiga’s biggest events to live TV in Italy during the 2026/27 season.
The package includes the two Clásicos between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two Madrid derbies between Real and Atlético and the two La Liga meetings between Barcelona and Atlético.
The matches are shown co-exclusively, meaning they are still available on DAZN while also being broadcast live via Mediaset’s TV and streaming platforms in Italy.
The agreement is effectively a renewal of the model used last season rather than a new relationship between the two broadcasters. DAZN has held LaLiga rights in Italy since 2018 and renewed its deal in 2024 until the end of the 2028/29 season. This deal covers all 380 LaLiga matches each season, along with LaLiga Hypermotion’s second division and promotion play-offs.
Mediaset therefore gets a very small portion of the overall package (six matches out of 380), but these selections are entirely concentrated around the three biggest clubs of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.
The first game under the renewed deal was Sunday’s heated Madrid derby, which was shown on Canale 20. Real’s Dean Huijsen was sent off early in the second half, opening the door for Atleti to open the scoring through Alex Grimaldo’s subsequent penalty. New signing Jonathan David doubled the hosts’ lead before the hour mark, with Real substitute Toni Rudiger netting a late consolation goal, although Los Blancos’ title hopes have already been dealt a blow.
The other five games will be spread over the course of the season, with exact kick-off times still up in the air due to complications with the LaLiga schedule.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal keeps DAZN’s full LaLiga subscription offering intact while giving the competition’s biggest matches a wider, free-to-air audience, delivering Mediaset’s premium Spanish football without taking on the cost of a full league package in the process.
The same six-match structure was used during the 2025/26 season. The companies have also worked together outside of LaLiga, including coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup.
While DAZN’s subscription platform maintains 374 league games within its own ecosystem, Mediaset gets the six games most likely to attract a wider casual audience without a barrier paywall.
