Inter Miami squandered a three-goal halftime lead as Charlotte FC produced a remarkable second-half comeback to earn a 3-3 draw at Nu Stadium.

Goals from Ian Fray, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul looked to have put the hosts on course for a comfortable victory, but Liel Abada scored twice in five minutes before Rodolfo Aloko completed the switch in the 90th minute.

Charlotte thought they had made the perfect start when Abada volleyed home after just five minutes, but VAR ruled out the goal after a handball from Idan Toklomati in the build-up.

Miami capitalized on that suspense in the 14th minute when a Lionel Messi corner kick caused confusion inside the box.

Luca de la Torre inadvertently headed the ball into his own goal, allowing Fray to volley past Kristijan Kahlina from close range.

The locals doubled their lead in the 33rd minute with another Messi corner.

The German Berterame assisted the delivery through the goal, where Suárez was hoping to finish from close range.

De Paul then made it 3-0 nine minutes later, collecting Telasco Segovia’s pass before drilling a superb low effort into the bottom corner from 35 yards.

However, Charlotte came out transformed after the interval.

Abada reduced the deficit in the 50th minute, converting from close range after Tyger Smalls volleyed Ashley Westwood’s cross home.

The winger struck again just five minutes later after a clever exchange with Pep Biel, who flicked the ball back into his path to finish accurately into the bottom corner.

Miami nearly restored its two-goal cushion when Messi chipped Kahlina, but Henry Kessler produced a vital goal-line clearance.

Suárez also squandered a promising opportunity after being picked out by Riquelme, who reworked his effort.

Those mistakes proved costly as Charlotte completed its comeback in the final minute of regulation time.

David Schnegg sent a cross into the penalty area, where Micael’s defensive header fell to Smalls.

The substitute hit the woodwork with a powerful effort but the rebound fell perfectly for Aloko to beat Dayne St. Clair with a volley at the near post.
