Preview of the match France – Fiji
Even amid an injury crisis, Fabien Galti’s France side have so much firepower that they will be heavy favorites tonight – especially after Fiji managed to make it three defeats at the Nations Championship in July. That said, with former World Cup-winning South Africa coach Jake White recently installed in charge – and a revamped squad – the Flying Fijians should be a very different proposition this month.
Les Bleus won their second consecutive Six Nations title this year, and – after narrowly losing a thriller to the All Blacks in their Nations Championship opener – beat Australia and Japan. Even with Thomas Ramos, Anthony Jelonch, Emmanuel Meafou and Matthieu Jalibert ruled out through injury, this still looks like a great starting XV on paper – a back division that includes Antoine Dupont, Romain Ntamack, Thé Attissogbe and the try-machine for every night on planet Louisiar Bielle-B.
Fiji are no strangers to Northern Hemisphere fixtures in this competition, having opted to play all three of their ‘home’ games in the United Kingdom for financial reasons. They had a July to forget, suffering comprehensive defeats to Wales, England and Scotland, and looked a poor shadow of the team that has broken into the upper echelons of world rugby in recent years.
The Whites will be at home in France today, however, with nine of the starting XV earning their living in the French leagues. He also made his debut for Fijian-born former England international Nathan Hughes (who currently plays for Racing 92 in Paris) at No.8.
